Membership of the Institute shall comprises six grades, namely:-

| 2. |
The Institute shall also maintain a Roll of Students
who shall have no rights, privileges or obligations save as provided
herein or in the By-Laws and shall not be at liberty to represent
themselves as members of the Institute. |
| 3. |
The procedure for transfer from one grade to another
shall be as may be prescribed from time to time by the By-Laws of
the Institute. |
| 4. |
The Council shall have the power to elect from time
to time Honorary Fellows from those persons who have given outstanding
services to the Institute or to the advancement of Marine Technology. |
| 5. |
A member of the Institute shall be entitled to use the appropriate
abbreviated designation after his name as follows:-
| a. |
An Honorary Fellow - Hon. FHKIMT |
| b. |
A Fellow - FHKIMT |
| c. |
A Member - MHKIMT |
| d. |
An Associate Member - AMHKIMT |

| 6. |
No different abbreviations may be used by an Honorary
Fellow, Fellow, Member or Associate Member to describe his relationship
to the Institute. |
| 7. |
Each Associate or Affiliate may use the title of the
grade of membership to which the belongs to indicate his/her relationship
to the Institute but shall use no abbreviations to describe his
relationship to th Institute. |
| 8. |
Students shall not use any abbreviation to describe
their relationship to the Institute. |
| 9. |
Any member practicing either under the title of, or
as an officer or employee of, a limited company or firm or any member
practicing under the title of a firm in which he is in partnership
with other persons, shall not use or permit to be use in the description
of any such company or firm any of the abbreviated titles or descriptions
of membership authorised in Articles 5 and 7. |

Corporate Members shall be Honorary Fellows (who before
transfer to that grade were Corporate Members), Fellows and Members; |
| 11. |
Non-Corporate Members shall be Honorary Fellows (who
were not previously Corporate Members), Associate Members, Associate,
Affiliates and Students. |
| 12. |
"Voting members" shall be any member on the register
as a Corporate Member or an Associate Member and each Voting member
shall have one vote only in all matters related to the Institute,
including those involving constitutional change. |

Submission of a completed HKIMT application form together
with a copy each of the academic/professional qualification certificates.
For application for election, it must be accompanied with a professional
review and it should clearly and concisely describe the candidate's
background experience, professional accomplishments and responsibility.
It should detail the candidate's training and professional experience
and should focus on activities which demonstrates the attainment
of competence and superior responsibility. For application for transfer,
only the experience and responsibility after attainment of Corporate
Member are required. After assessment of the application by the
Membership Committee, an interview panel will be formed to assess
the candidate. |
