Name

The name of the Institute is "The Hong Kong Institute of Marine Technology" and its registered address is P.O. Box No. 91645, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Hong Kong.

Our Objectives

The objective and purposes for which the Institute is hereby constituted are to promote scientific development of Marine Technology including Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, ship operation and subjects related to maritime activities in all its branches and in the furtherance of such objectives:
  1. to enable Marine Engineers &Technologists to meet and correspond;
  2. to facilitate the interchange of ideas in all aspects of Marine Technology/science including design, construction, operation, maintenance and management of ships and other marine vehicles and structures designed, adapted or intended for use upon, in or under the sea and inland waters;
  3. to encourage study, research and development of the same and to publish and communicate information on such subjects;
  4. to maintain the integrity and status of the professionalism of marine technology and to represent it both to the public and to the Government;
  5. to maintain a professional register of members qualified to practise;
  6. to uphold the status of members of the Institute by holding or prescribing examinations for candidates for election and by requiring standards of knowledge and experience which can be approved;
  7. to co-operate with Universities, other Educational Institutions and Public Educational Bodies for the furtherance of education in Engineering Science/Marine Technology;
  8. to make gifts or contributions for educational or charitable purposes;
  9. to do any such other lawful things as are incidental or conductive to the attainment of any of the above-mentioned objectives.
